  52. ``cryptography`` is a package which provides cryptographic recipes and
  53. primitives to Python developers. Our goal is for it to be your "cryptographic
  54. standard library". It supports Python 3.9+ and PyPy3 7.3.11+.
  55. ``cryptography`` includes both high level recipes and low level interfaces to
  56. common cryptographic algorithms such as symmetric ciphers, message digests, and
  57. key derivation functions. For example, to encrypt something with
  58. ``cryptography``'s high level symmetric encryption recipe:
  59. .. code-block:: pycon
  60. >>> from cryptography.fernet import Fernet
  61. >>> # Put this somewhere safe!
  62. >>> key = Fernet.generate_key()
  63. >>> f = Fernet(key)
  64. >>> token = f.encrypt(b"A really secret message. Not for prying eyes.")
  65. >>> token
  66. b'...'
  67. >>> f.decrypt(token)
  68. b'A really secret message. Not for prying eyes.'
  69. You can find more information in the `documentation`_.
  70. You can install ``cryptography`` with:
  71. .. code-block:: console
  72. $ pip install cryptography
  73. For full details see `the installation documentation`_.
  74. Discussion
  75. ~~~~~~~~~~
  76. If you run into bugs, you can file them in our `issue tracker`_.
  77. We maintain a `cryptography-dev`_ mailing list for development discussion.
  78. You can also join ``#pyca`` on ``irc.libera.chat`` to ask questions or get
  79. involved.
