  53. ``cryptography`` is a package which provides cryptographic recipes and
  54. primitives to Python developers. Our goal is for it to be your "cryptographic
  55. standard library". It supports Python 3.9+ and PyPy3 7.3.11+.
  56. ``cryptography`` includes both high level recipes and low level interfaces to
  57. common cryptographic algorithms such as symmetric ciphers, message digests, and
  58. key derivation functions. For example, to encrypt something with
  59. ``cryptography``'s high level symmetric encryption recipe:
  60. .. code-block:: pycon
  61. >>> from cryptography.fernet import Fernet
  62. >>> # Put this somewhere safe!
  63. >>> key = Fernet.generate_key()
  64. >>> f = Fernet(key)
  65. >>> token = f.encrypt(b"A really secret message. Not for prying eyes.")
  66. >>> token
  67. b'...'
  68. >>> f.decrypt(token)
  69. b'A really secret message. Not for prying eyes.'
  70. You can find more information in the `documentation`_.
  71. You can install ``cryptography`` with:
  72. .. code-block:: console
  73. $ pip install cryptography
  74. For full details see `the installation documentation`_.
  75. Discussion
  76. ~~~~~~~~~~
  77. If you run into bugs, you can file them in our `issue tracker`_.
  78. We maintain a `cryptography-dev`_ mailing list for development discussion.
  79. You can also join ``#pyca`` on ``irc.libera.chat`` to ask questions or get
  80. involved.
